In education, there is the tutoring fiasco within NCLB, which requires schools with the least amount of available funds to set aside for the tutoring industry 15-20 percent of federal dollars intended to fund programs for the poorest children. Any "scientifically-based" research to even suggest that the tutoring (more test prep) is working? Any accountability, Maggie and Grover? Zero. Nada:

Florida public schools could spend some $85 million on private tutoring for 347,778 low-income students next year, but whether these outside firms help children is anyone's guess.
Lee County has set aside roughly $650,000 for the service for next year; an estimated $570,000 was spent during the last school year . . .
