KIPP Presentation at Occupy the DOE: Stop the KIPP-nosis

During the past weekend (March 30-April 2), a feisty and determined group of teachers, scholars, parents, grandparents, and students met to organize and teach one another about how all this high stakes testing is not good for kids.  Califather was there to capture the entire 4 day event on live video, which is now archived at Livestream.com.  I will be be posting links and clips here in the coming days.

The clip below is from Saturday afternoon.  Leading off was Linda Nathan, Ann O'Halloran, and Ruth Rodriguez.
Ruth Rodriguez-Fay.  Getting Beyond the Madness of High-Stakes Testing: Occupy the Classroom!  Linda Nathan is the founding headmaster of the Boston Arts Academy, the city’s first and only public high school for the visual and performing arts. Dr. Nathan has written a widely-praised book about teaching and leadership in urban schools, “The Hardest Questions Aren’t on the Test,” which was recently published in Spanish. Ann O’Halloran was the 2007 Massachusetts History Teacher of the Year and is a member of Citizens for Public Schools.  Ruth Rodríguez-Fay (pictured here) is past President of Citizens for Public Schools and a “Save Our Schools” interim committee member.
You may navigate through the session by dragging the bar at the bottom of the video.  My KIPP talk begins at 30:30.

2:30 Jim Horn:  KIPP and the Total Compliance Model of Schooling the Poor:  Ending the KIPP-nosis.Here's the permalink:  http://livestre.am/1mrZU
