Doug Lemov is the CEO of Aspire charter schools and author of the teaching bible that is used at Aspire, KIPP, Match, and other total compliance charter schools that segregate and culturally sterilize the children of the poor. The name of Lemov's book is Teach Like a Champion, and it provides a list of 49 "techiques" that will make you a "champion" teacher, as defined by the paternalistic and authoritarian segregated corporate reform school ideology (theory) that treats children like inmates.
I have seen some good reporting from Rich at the NYTimes, but this infomercial for Aspire is one of the worst. The two organizations she cites for information on teaching are two of leading corporate ed think tanks that try to replace real research on education issues: Education Mistrust and Corporate Council for Teacher Quality. Does Rich ask any teacher ed programs to respond about the place of theory in teacher preparation? Hey, Mokoto, give me a call.
