FairTest, AFT, and NEA Lock Arms to Support New High Stakes Testing Plan

At least the pretending is over.  From Monty Neill:

The NEA is working with Reps Sinema and Gibson to obtain organizational endorsement for their bill (allowing grade-span testing) which they will re-introduce in the House on Jan 21.. . .FairTest strong endorses this bill and urges all groups to endorse it.

My letter to NEA:

If I were trying to come up with the worst idea of the year, it would be something called “grade-span” testing.  NEA has a rare opportunity to express the only sane, humane, and reasonable position to oppose all high stakes testing, but instead it is going on the record in support of more of the same unethical and miseducative practices that corporate education might ever devise. 

I can only hope that every teacher in America will stop paying dues until this position is changed.
