Some people remain amazed at Diane Ravitch's "conversion" that came after she figured out that everyone with a brain had discovered the Big Lie that undergirded the ed policies that she had espoused for the past 30 years.
What many people don't know is that Ravitch did not leave her Party--her Party left her as it dove over the cliff, stage right.
Now that the Democratic Party has become the the party of Nixon, Diane has a home, and she is just as menacingly protective of this one as she was her last.
The commentary below comes from Alison McDowell:
It has not made it out of moderation.

Ravitch at Clinton Fundraiser |
The commentary below comes from Alison McDowell:
I have come to realize that the "personalized" blended/hybrid digital learning programs inundating our classrooms since the passage of the ESSA can be traced back to the creation (via Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13111 in 1997) of the Advanced Distributed Learning Program. This Department of Defense program utilized considerable resources from private sector interests and academic institutions.
I encourage all who truly care about public education in the 21st century to familiarize themselves with the Clinton family's involvement in promoting technology-based education and digital workforce badges.
While the primary function of ADL was to enhance distance learning for DoD and federal employees, it is clear from the implementation plan that the intention was to create an infrastructure that would fundamentally change the delivery of educational content well beyond those limits.
Almost twenty years later, the chickens are coming home to roost for K12 education, just in time for Hillary Clinton to step back in. The federal government's current plan to "redesign" public education for the 21st Century is based on a military-industrial complex model. I hope people wake up before it is too late.
The following links tell an interesting story. I encourage people to start digging in. There's a lot more material out there.

Ah, the fall of a false god! It's been interesting, Diane
ReplyDeleteBarack Obama has been the worst education President in history, but we can rest assured that neoliberal imperialist Hillary Rodham Clinton will wrest that title from him in short order. That is, when she isn't too busy bombing brown children into oblivion! Dr. Ravitch asserts that "[Clinton] has a good brain and she knows how to use it", well Clinton's been using that brain for horrific acts of imperialism, racism, neoliberalism, classism, and nativism her entire life.
ReplyDeleteI'm so saddened by Dr. Ravitch's uncritical support of such a vile individual. I'm at the point where I have to turn off her feed so that don't see the constant Clinton cheer-leading. All of Clinton's victims in Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, and Syria deserve better.
It's sad but I can think of far worse Ed secretaries. One called teachers terrorists shoving NCLB down my throat. Hyperbole serves nothing but emotional venting
DeleteI posted the following comment, let's see how long it stays up:
ReplyDeleteOnly one presidential candidate categorically opposes privatization of schools via charters and vouchers. She is also on record as strongly opposing high-stakes standardized tests. She is advocating for free public universities for all. Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party is the best choice for people that support *PUBLIC* education. She’s also great on a host of other issues.
Most importantly, Stein believes that the children in Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, and Syria’s lives matter too. A somewhat refreshing stance, not held by any of the other POTUS candidates.
The time is well past too late.

Also, I hope you're working to recruit Alison McDowell to SM. That is amazing research.
ReplyDeleteFor those following along. This is a blog post from 2011 about the DoD origins of K12 online learning. This Silicon-Valley consultant does a lot of work with USAID and others on ICT and global education. http://natomagroup.com/natoma-home/tag/scorm
