Trump’s Victory: What American Federation of Teachers President Weingarten should say
Professor Lois Weiner dismantles Randi Weingarten’s calamitous and undemocratic decisions to back a severely flawed candidate. Decisions that, in turn, led to Trump’s victory. This brilliant essay is a must read.
A key target in my kindergarten instruction is learning to differentiate between fiction and nonfiction. While Dr. Weiner earns high marks for creating a fantasy, it is important that we not delude ourselves into imagining that Ms. Weingarten is an advocate for public education. On the contrary, she has yet to miss an opportunity to collude with corporate reformers. Weingarten may be experiencing anguish over the election results due to her disappointment in not achieving her dream of becoming Secretary of Education. Cry no tears for the demise of Secretary Clinton and her neoliberal agenda designed to protect the wealthy and their sycophants. Clinton and the DNC conspired to thwart the campaign of Senator Sanders. Even in her concession speach, Clinton could not own up to her responsibility for being a flawed candidate. Instead she pointed to a divided nation. In actuality, those she termed a basket of deplorables united to defeat her. If Weingarten had any integrity, she would step down, but we need not entertain that possibility. As for me, I am heading back to the reality zone.
